Google Unveils its new online coding course to prepare workers for jobs in the tech industry

Technology is slowly but surely taking over the workforce as many people are scrambling to keep up with advancements in technology across all sectors. One of the top technology companies in existence, Google, understands the need for preparing people to keep up with rapidly growing technological advancements and is rolling out a new program to help equip workers with the skills they need to understand and adapt to the changing work landscape.    In a recent announcement, the company revealed that they will be unveiling a new course for individuals to learn the Python programming language. Python is a very in-demand coding language that many employers value in terms of having as a skill set for potential employees. The official name for the program is the Google IT Automation with Python Professional Certificate.

The course will be available on the popular e-learning platform Coursera and it will be a six-course program in beginner-level Python.

The course will culminate in a final standardized project which will be focused on programming for the sole purpose of automation. Google has also announced that it will fund about 2,500 need-based admission scholarships pertaining to IT training through their site Google.org.

This scholarship will be supported by nonprofit organizations such as Upwardly Global, Merit America, and Goodwill.

This move comes after the company has faced increasing scrutiny over the potential implications that automation and technology will have on the workforce overall. The new Python programming course is going to be a part of the Grow With Google program which is an initiative that was released about three years ago.    Grow With Google is a $1 billion dollar project that is set-up to help get workers ready for tech jobs in the near future. This past October, the CEO of Google Sundar Pichai announced a partnership with the White House advisor Ivanka Trump which will provide 250,000 training opportunities over the next five years to American’s so they can learn technology skills.    Sundar has also pledged to sign the Pledge to America’s Workers which is an initiative by the White House to “expand programs that educate, train and reskill American workers from high-school age to near-retirement.” By the end of 2020, Google’s IT professional certification course will expand to about 100 US community colleges.
